In response to recent statistics showing car sales have dropped by 97% to post WWII levels, you may be forgiven for thinking that this is not the best time to purchase a new car. However, we believe this is the perfect time to arrange your post-lockdown wheels. On 22nd April, the Government gave the green light for car dealerships to start online sales and car deliveries, provided adequate social distancing measures are in place. If you are thinking about a new car, this may be the best time to purchase for a number of reasons.

Our Economy Needs You

As dealerships reopen and the industry tries to recover, they will need your support. The car sales and manufacturing industry contributes around £13billion to the UK economy each year. With a large scale recession looming, crucial industries like this one offer the best route to recovery. As we all look for ways to support our country and do what we can during this time, making purchases may not be the first thing that springs to mind. Nevertheless, supporting our economy and reigniting demand will be incredibly important moving forward.

Buying Online is Easy

There has never been a better time to buy a car online. Many people believe that buying a car involves a visit to a dealership, lengthy discussions and a lot of face-to-face contacts. However, with the rise of company’s like Tesla, the traditional dealership is quickly becoming obsolete. Tesla’s high street stores and buying experience have changed the way we purchase cars but the real change has been online. Most car manufacturers now offer interactive car design portals, extensive information, and web chats with technical experts to allow you to make an informed decision from the comfort of your own home. Your new car can be purchased while you are in lockdown and be delivered to your front door, maintaining strict social distancing throughout.

Manufacturers are back

With the lockdown restrictions nearing a possible end, car manufacturers are starting to return to business again. Aston Martin has started the phased resumption of production at its St Athan Facility and has outlined a number of the new safety protocols it has put in place to protect staff. Moreover, Kia dealerships will be reopening workshops to carry out servicing, repairs and MOTs and are ready to start taking remote orders during the lockdown. Although dealership showrooms will remain closed until Government advice changes, customers can get in contact with their local dealer to place an order. Inevitably, other major manufacturers will follow suit and it could be a matter of weeks before a relatively normal service is resumed.

You Have Time to Make the Right Decision

Finally, this period at home is also a great opportunity to think about your new purchase, research, and make changes to the way you travel. With a little extra time at home, people have more time to consider how they will use their car and what model suits them best. This will allow you to make a more informed decision and may make you enjoy your purchase even more. This time may also encourage you to make a bigger change by switching to an electric or low-emission vehicle. As many people look to change the way they travel after the lockdown, switching to electricity offers an exciting opportunity. You may have been considering this for a while but the space we have been given by lockdown could be the catalyst to make this a reality.
